The Assane Seck University of Ziguinchor, Senegal, is hosting an international symposium on the 19th and 20th of January dedicated to the figure of Ami\u0301lcar Cabral, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his assassination in Conakry.<\/p>\n

According to the newspaper Be\u0301s Bi, researchers and intellectuals from Senegal and several other countries are participating in the symposium. There will be around 50 communications on the most varied aspects of the personality of the founding leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should be noted that Ami\u0301lcar Cabral continues to inspire countless Africans who see him as a model statesman, who managed to reconcile theory with practice\u201d, writes Be\u0301s Bi.<\/p>\n

This periodical also highlights the contribution of Ami\u0301lcar Cabral to the liberation of Africa as something based on respect for the dignity of the black man, as well as \u201cthe unavoidable role of youth in the development of the continent, the decisive place of women in the development strategy of free countries colonial yoke and culture as a pillar of national reconstruction\u201d.<\/p>\n

Born in Bafata\u0301, Guinea, on September 12, 1924, to Cape Verdean parents, Ami\u0301lcar Cabral was assassinated on the night of January 20, 1973, as part of a conspiracy against his leadership. Seven months later the PAIGC would proclaim the independence of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and in 1975 that of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n
