Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The oldest carnival group in the country, Copa Cabana, from the island of Sa\u0303o Nicolau, promises an \u201celectrifying and passionate\u201d parade to celebrate its 80 years of history.<\/p>\n

Emanuel Cabral, president of the group, in an interview with Inforpress, said that the group has encountered some challenges in this recovery, as a result of the stoppage due to covid 19, but which are being \u201cgradually overcome\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo put together Carnival you need a complex machine, that’s why we divide it into committees, which are responsible for each sector and it is on the basis of this that we are preparing ourselves so that on the 18th of February we can present a quality parade, as is already customary. \u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n

80 years in the spotlight<\/p>\n

Without lifting the veil too much on the group’s plot, Emanuel Cabral advanced that it will be around the 80th anniversary of the creation of the Copa Cabana and all its history and promises surprises, stating that “some” will be revealed as the day of Carnival approaches.<\/p>\n

With regard to work at the sewing and construction yards for the floats, Cabral says that they have already started and hopes to present a project that \u201clives up to expectations\u201d.<\/p>\n

With regard to support and sponsorship, he stressed that the main sponsor of the group continues to be “our people”, highlighting, however, the support of the Municipality of Ribeira Brava and the Ministry of Culture, which have been increasing in recent years, and of the private companies.<\/p>\n

The group hopes to have around 300 revelers despite the \u201cyouth flight\u201d to other islands, which conditions the participation of extras in the Carnival parades in Sa\u0303o Nicolau.<\/p>\n
