Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Ocean Race, the biggest regatta in the world, should start arriving in Sa\u0303o Vicente from 22:00 this Friday, January 20th. Cape Verde will thus receive the first ever stop of the race in West Africa, becoming the second African country to host the race.<\/p>\n

The Ocean Race Regatta (formerly Volvo Ocean Race) started from Alicante (Spain) on January 15, 2023 and ends in Genoa (Italy) six months and 60 thousand kilometers later, with passages through countries such as South Africa, Argentina, Denmark, Germany and Italy.<\/p>\n

According to Ocean Race Cape Verde’s Director of Sea Operations, Bruno Santos, a \u201chuge number\u201d of the Coast Guard and the Maritime Police is already in Sa\u0303o Vicente, which will help guarantee the safety of the event.<\/p>\n

Conditioned Navigation Zone<\/p>\n

In this sense, a Restricted Navigation Zone was created to guarantee safety at the arrival and departure of the race and to avoid accidents with boats in Porto Grande bay.<\/p>\n

This zone, according to Bruno Santos, was created in concert with Enapor, the Maritime and Port Institute (IMP), the Port Authority, to prevent boats outside the race from interfering in the middle of the race and that there are no incidents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe IMP issued a notice to navigators that, basically, created a Conditioned Navigation Zone here where we will be racing between Porto Grande and the islet of the Birds\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\n

Activities at Vila Ocean Race<\/p>\n

During the regatta’s stay in Sa\u0303o Vicente, the organization prepared a series of activities at the Vila Ocean Race, which includes concerts with Cape Verdean artists such as Ceuzany, Dieg, the group \u201cOs Tubaro\u0303es\u201d, presentation of Carnival groups, performance of \u201c Mandingas\u201d and even a handicraft fair.<\/p>\n

There will also be a gastronomy wing, in addition to conferences to discuss topics related to nautical sports, preservation and sustainability of the oceans, among other topics.<\/p>\n
