Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Jose\u0301 Maria Neves, sent a letter to the mayor of Sa\u0303o Vicente, Augusto Neves, congratulating him on the Municipality Day of that island, which is celebrated this Sunday, 22nd. Recognizing advances, but also challenges to its development, the highest magistrate of the Nation took the opportunity to appeal, once again, to the \u201cnecessary and insistent\u201d search for consensus and understanding between the main political actors, \u201cprivileging the common good and the legitimate expectations\u201d of citizens.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Maria Neves begins by saying that he is pleased with the efforts undertaken by the municipality<\/p>\n

to improve the socioeconomic situation of citizens, especially the most vulnerable groups, who demand greater attention, above all, in these \u201cdifficult times that the country is experiencing\u201d, with the crisis provoked by covid-19, first, and, later, the invasion of Russia by Ukraine.<\/p>\n

These advances are noticeable, according to the Nation’s Highest Magistrate, “both in terms of infrastructure, namely hotel developments, and living conditions, with the resumption of economic and cultural activities, thanks to<\/p>\n

a “djunta-mon” and the valuable contribution from the diaspora, from national and foreign companies, in addition to policy measures implemented, both by the city hall and by the government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Constraints<\/p>\n

However, the President of the Republic also highlights the constraints that still persist in Sa\u0303o Vicente, including unemployment, reduced purchasing power, precarious housing, among other challenges, \u201cwhich have worried local authorities\u201d.<\/p>\n

In order to overcome them, he considers that PR Sa\u0303o Vicente must \u201cbecome an even more attractive, dynamic and competitive municipality\u201d, provided that, for that, it invests heavily in all key development sectors, namely in culture, fishing, tourism, professional training and nautical sports.<\/p>\n

Likewise, it points to the need for the local council to mobilize resources through cooperation and partnerships and more investments \u201cto give continuity to development, in order to guarantee better living conditions for the citizens of the ‘island of Monte Cara’\u201d.<\/p>\n
