Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The earthquake that hit the islands of Santo Anta\u0303o and Sa\u0303o Vicente at dawn this Thursday is the \u201chighest magnitude\u201d recorded so far in Cape Verde and likely related to a volcanic process.<\/p>\n

The geophysicist of the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG), in Sa\u0303o Vicente, Bruno Faria advanced this information, assuring that the earthquake happened at 03:16 and with the epicenter located 20 kilometers southwest of the coast of Monte Trigo, in Santo Anta\u0303o.<\/p>\n

The earthquake, according to the same source, had a magnitude of 5.1 with the epicenter recorded in an eruptive field discovered in 2005.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is very likely that this event is related to volcanic processes\u201d, explained the geophysicist, confirming that it was the \u201chighest magnitude\u201d earthquake recorded in Cape Verde and was due to the \u201cincrease in accumulated energy\u201d.<\/p>\n
