Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the Integrated Development Association of Ribeira das Patas, in the municipality of Porto Novo, Santo Anta\u0303o, said today that the rockfall and landslide in the Catano area remain \u201cworrying\u201d. For this reason, he requests the monitoring of the competent authorities in the matter.<\/p>\n

Arlindo Delgado reinforced that the residents of Catano, one of the villages in Ribeira das Patas, have not been calm in the last two months due to rockfalls and landslides in the area, which have been intensifying in recent days.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe situation is worrying. The population has not been calm and we ask the authorities to continue to monitor the place and take the necessary measures for the tranquility of the people\u201d, asked the associative leader.<\/p>\n

To Inforpress, residents confirmed that the falling of rocks and landslides in Catano, which has been happening since January 23, have intensified in recent days.<\/p>\n

Anto\u0301nia Almeida, a resident of the locality, said that \u201cthe population is very concerned\u201d, as rockfalls in that area are becoming more and more frequent.<\/p>\n

Authorities call for peace of mind<\/p>\n

The Porto Novo City Council has been asking for \u201ctranquility\u201d to the population in Catano and has already appealed to people to avoid approaching the place where stones have been falling.<\/p>\n

A civil protection team, made up of the commander of the Northern Region of Cape Verde, Vito\u0301ria Veri\u0301ssimo, a volcanologist and volunteer firefighters from Porto Novo was also recently at Ribeira das Patas, ensuring that the fall of rocks and landslides had whether to erosion.<\/p>\n

Discarded seismic activity<\/p>\n

Vito\u0301ria Veri\u0301ssimo ruled out any seismic activity in Ribeira das Patas, explaining that these are \u201crocks that are falling because of erosion\u201d.<\/p>\n
