The workers stated that they had already \u201clost patience\u201d waiting so long to receive the two months of wages in arrears.<\/p>\n

Therefore, today, as a protest, they began to demolish the road protection walls, which they consider to be \u201cunpaid\u201d work by contractor Armando Cunha, responsible for the work at the time.<\/p>\n

Ant\u00f3nio Miguel Sousa, responsible for workers, claimed that the money in question is to honor his commitments to third parties.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don’t want to tear down the work we’ve done, because it’s not like us, but we’ve already reached the extreme. How is it possible to play with our survival. We already work, we just want our money \u201dshe underlined.<\/p>\n

Armando Cunha denies having workers with wages in arrears<\/p>\n

Contacted by Inforpress, the head of the contractor Armando Cunha, Jo\u00e3o R\u00eago, said that the contractor does not have any workers in Santo Ant\u00e3o and that they are not part of the company. The same source was categorical and assured that “certainly” these workers do not have any contract with Armando Cunha, but with the subcontractors.<\/p>\n

In turn, the representative of the subcontractors, Alex Constru\u00e7\u00f5es and Brand\u00e3o Neves Constru\u00e7\u00f5es, Victor Neves, said that as a subcontractor they had a team working on the work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a contract with the contractor Armando Cunha, but they closed the work and never gave us any satisfaction again. However, they were committed to paying the two months wages and they never did,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

The same source also said that they had already spoken with the Mayor of S\u00e3o Paulo, Ant\u00f3nio Aleixo Martins, and also with the Ministry of Infrastructure about the situation of these workers, since according to him the workers “cannot” be harmed. They said they would fix it, but “never said anything”.<\/p>\n

Victor Neves, however, said that as a subcontractor, he is responsible for paying these workers, but until they receive the amount in question, they cannot pay these workers.<\/p>\n

\u201cArmando Cunha never paid us, so how are we going to be able to pay these workers?\u201d, he questioned.<\/p>\n

That road, just two kilometers long, is budgeted at 119 thousand contos, which means a cost of around 80 thousand contos per kilometer and should be executed in eight months.<\/p>\n
