Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The bill that classifies the Portuguese language as intangible cultural heritage of Cape Verde was presented during the parliamentary debate in the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

The initiative was presented by the proposer, deputy Mircea Delgado, from the parliamentary group of the Movement for Democracy (MpD, in power), who justified the relevance of the Portuguese language as an integral and structuring part of the history and identity of the Cape Verdean nation.<\/p>\n

As she recalled, Portuguese was the first language that echoed on the islands, brought by Portuguese sailors and missionaries in their process of discovery and maritime expansion in the 15th century.<\/p>\n

She emphasized that the country\u2019s language policy, regarding the Portuguese language, is a historical heritage of undeniable value for Cape Verde and is part of a strategic vision that assumes the active belonging of Cape Verdeans to the CPLP.<\/p>\n
