Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Commissioner of the African Union revealed in Rome (Italy) that in sub-Saharan Africa, at least 66% of female employment is in agri-food systems, but she is not satisfied with the fact that the continent is being surpassed by South Asia.<\/p>\n

The African diplomat Josefa Correia Sacko provided these figures in the city of Rome while attending the launch of the new report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on the status of women in agri-food systems, where she stated that in South Asia, women overwhelmingly work 71% in this sector.<\/p>\n

According to a press release from the African Union sent to Inforpress, the commissioner stated that \u201cempowering women and reducing the gender gap in agri-food systems\u201d is a \u201cgood economy\u201d and a \u201cwin-win\u201d situation that would lead to systematic benefits for women and society as a whole.<\/p>\n

She considered it a way to reduce hunger, increase incomes and strengthen the resilience of rural communities, as demonstrated in this report,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n
