Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Parliament approved, this Friday, in general, the bill that classifies the Portuguese language as intangible cultural heritage of Cape Verde, with 27 votes in favour, 26 against and nine abstentions from national deputies.<\/p>\n

At first, after the deputies had voted, with 27 votes in favour, 24 from the MpD, one from the PAICV deputy Clo\u0301vis Silva, two from the UCID, 26 against from the PAICV and nine abstentions from the MpD, the board of the National Assembly considered that the diploma was failed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the deputy of the Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID), Anto\u0301nio Monteiro, drew the attention of the National Assembly board that, taking into account that abstention votes do not count, there was a possibility that the diploma passed with 27 votes in favour, i.e. the majority of votes against the minority.<\/p>\n

Approved unanimously<\/p>\n

The President of the National Assembly, Austelino Correia, suspended the session to request legal advice to clarify the concern raised by deputy Anto\u0301nio Monteiro and, from then on, based on the \u201cdisposition of the Constitution of the Republic\u201d, the project was, in fact, generally approved.<\/p>\n

This, taking into account that the null vote does not count and that the project was approved with the majority of the votes of the deputies present in the room.<\/p>\n

In his final position, Austelino Correia said that if the deputies so understood, they could ask the Constitutional Court for further clarification on this situation.<\/p>\n
