Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>A sailboat sank today, around 7:30 am, in Porto Novo bay, in Santo Anta\u0303o, with seven crew members on board, confirmed the maritime authorities on the island. All crew members are safe, but one is suspected to have escaped.<\/p>\n

The maritime delegate of Santo Anta\u0303o, Miguel Gomes, according to Inforpress, said that around 7:30 am today he was informed that a yacht had sunk on one of the beaches of the city of Porto Novo, with seven people on board, and that, being towed to the berth, it sank due to damage caused by the grounding.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe sailboat was promptly rescued by some boats that were nearby. He managed to tow the vessel to the pier, but due to damage caused during the stranding, it sank\u201d, explained Miguel Gomes.<\/p>\n

It is suspected that a Cape Verdean crew member has fled<\/p>\n

The seven crew members, who were detained by the police authorities for identification, are from Gabon and Ghana, but there are suspicions that there was a Cape Verdean on board, added the maritime delegate, believing that he could be at large.<\/p>\n
