Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The mayors of the Municipal Chambers of Santo Anta\u0303o manifest themselves, this Saturday, \u201csurprised and perplexed\u201d with the increase in the price of maritime transport without consulting the Association of Municipalities. In this sense, they ask for measures from the Government to mitigate the consequences of this increase in the lives of Santo Antonenses.<\/p>\n

The president of the Association of Municipalities of Santo Anta\u0303o, Anto\u0301nio Aleixo, on behalf of the mayors, said that the city councils of this island \u201ccannot remain indifferent\u201d to the adoption of this tariff update \u201cin the values \u200b\u200bof its application\u201d, expressing \u201ctheir tremendous concern\u201d for the impacts that this new tariff will have on services, companies, economic operators and communities.<\/p>\n

According to Anto\u0301nio Aleixo, what is at stake is the \u201cpermanent and indispensable mobility that sustains connectivity, unification and complementarity\u201d between the islands of Santo Anta\u0303o.<\/p>\n

Municipalities were not heard<\/p>\n

For the updating of maritime transport tariffs, the mayors of Santo Anta\u0303o understand that, in addition to the Merchant Marine Association and the Consumer Defense Association (Adeco), the municipalities of Santo Anta\u0303o and Sa\u0303o Vicente should also be consulted .<\/p>\n

This update, according to the president of the Association of Municipalities of Santo Anta\u0303o, takes place “in the context of yet another international crisis” of an economic, financial, food, nutritional and energy nature, triggered by the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Against price discrimination between nationals and foreigners<\/p>\n

The mayors of Santo Anta\u0303o are against \u201cprice discrimination\u201d between foreign and national citizens, considering that this measure will affect tourism on this island.<\/p>\n

The mayors therefore demand that the Government \u201celiminate\u201d this discrimination against foreign citizens \u201cor at least drastically reduce its expression and grandeur\u201d to ensure the competitiveness of the tourist destination of Cape Verde and Santo Anta\u0303o.<\/p>\n

The mayors of Santo Anta\u0303o also suggest that the Government introduce \u201cmitigation factors\u201d of the impacts of the increases that take into account \u201cthe increase in the cost of living, the loss of income, the reduction in purchasing power and the deterioration of conditions of family life\u201d.<\/p>\n
