Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID-opposition) argued in parliament today that the Cape Verdean diaspora cannot continue to be seen as merely a group of people who send remittances to family members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe value of the 11th Island for Cape Verde must go beyond emotions and rise to the level of strategy, positively influencing the country\u2019s development. Moreover, the Cape Verdean diaspora cannot continue to be seen as a mere group of people who send small parcels of remittances to family members,\u201d said MP and President of UCID, Joa\u0303o Santos Lui\u0301s, in his opening speech during the monthly debate with the Prime Minister on \u201cDiaspora and Development\u201d.<\/p>\n

As he argued, Cape Verde is overdue to invest in its diaspora without any complexes and count on it as if it were an excellent form of cooperation, in order to obtain \u201cgenuine and long-term investments,\u201d taking advantage of the contribution to national wealth and scientific knowledge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cape Verdean diaspora should assert itself as a useful element in addressing the internal deficit of technical professionals and promoting development processes. Cape Verde should finally free itself from prejudices and take advantage of professionals already integrated into developed countries, with professional experiences and excellent capacities for promotion and achievement that can undoubtedly be useful in the processes of development and modernization of the country,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n
