Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Union of Industry, Service, Commerce, Agriculture and Fishing (SISCAP) announced today that workers will take to the streets on several islands, on the 1st of May, in a \u201csign of protest\u201d against the problems affecting the country.<\/p>\n

O sindicalista e coordenador da Plataforma Unir e Resgatar a Unia\u0303o Nacional dos Trabalhadores de Cabo Verde \u2013 Central Sindical (PUR UNTC-CS), Eliseu Tavares, explicou hoje, em confere\u0302ncia de imprensa, que esta manifestac\u0327a\u0303o visa chamar a atenc\u0327a\u0303o do governo dos problemas que ve\u0302m \u201capoquentado\u201d os trabalhadores e fami\u0301lias cabo-verdianas.<\/p>\n

Eliseu Tavares said that the holding of this demonstration resulted from the meeting between unions from several islands that met last week in Praia.<\/p>\n

Causes of the protest<\/p>\n

A situac\u0327a\u0303o laboral em Cabo Verde com efeitos \u201cnefastos e preocupantes\u201d na vida social do Pai\u0301s e das ilhas; desresponsabilizac\u0327a\u0303o das entidades empregadoras; perda de poder de compra, aumento de impostos e desemprego; subida exagerada dos prec\u0327os dos bens de primeira necessidade, combusti\u0301veis e energia; subida dos prec\u0327os de transportes; \u201cgraves problemas\u201d no sistema de sau\u0301de; emprego preca\u0301rio, esta\u0303o entre as causas do protesto marcado para terc\u0327a-feira, 1 de Maio, Dia Internacional dos Trabalhadores.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the unions of several islands call on all Cape Verdean workers from various sectors, and their respective families, civil society organizations and social activists to participate in this peaceful demonstration.<\/p>\n

In Praia, the concentration of this demonstration takes place at the Centro Social 1o de Maio, on the Farm, from 8:30 am.<\/p>\n
