Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Environmentalist and university professor Guilherme Mascarenhas today asked for the Government\u2019s approval to implement the project to preserve the Coral Cove in Laginha, stressing the \u201curgency\u201d of the initiative due to the \u201cadvanced state of degradation\u201d of the local<\/p>\n

Speaking to Inforpress, Guilherme Mascarenhas said that \u201ca large part\u201d of the corals in Enseada da Laginha is affected by sediments, nutrients or algae, and that two of the 11 species existing there are at risk of disappearing.<\/p>\n

According to the environmentalist, the degradation is \u201cworrying\u201d because \u201cthere are already dead corals\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI propose that the Government, through the Ministry of the Sea, gives me formal support. A letter formally saying that it authorises me to go ahead with the project. I look for a civil engineer or a team to implement the project, because I already have a draft, I have the support of the President of the Republic. And after that I\u2019ll look for funding and when I have funding we will implement the project\u201d, proposed the environmentalist.<\/p>\n

For Guilherme Mascarenhas, the Government\u2019s endorsement \u201cis important\u201d because if this partnership does not exist no one will be able to support the financing of the project.<\/p>\n
