Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the Amor Farapo\u0301 group, Anto\u0301nio Avis, received a cheque for 1,500 contos Thursday from the Coty council of Santa Catarina do Fogo l referring to the second tranche of support for the construction of the carriage access to Farapo\u0301 Bay<\/p>\n

The overall amount of 3,000 million escudos is co-financed by the Santa Catarina do Fogo municipality, in partnership with the government, and the handover occurred about four months after the Santa Catarina municipality handed over the first tranche of the same amount, with a view to supporting the group in carrying out construction work on the access road and creating public jobs.<\/p>\n

The construction of five kilometres of road, which links Fonte Aleixo Sul to the historic Farapo\u0301 Baia, is the responsibility of the Amor Farapo\u0301 group, which relies on volunteer work from the resident population, emigrants and friends of the group and the Baia itself, which has \u201csentimental value\u201d for the people of Fonte Aleixo and Santa Catarina do Fogo.<\/p>\n

\u201cFarapo\u0301 is a historic bay and refuge for many people in the famine of the 1940s in the 20th century,\u201d said the group\u2019s leader, Anto\u0301nio Avis, also known as Mestre Avis, and is one of the island\u2019s largest fishing ports, with a water spring and the island\u2019s second beach, but little known and visited due to the lack of a road.<\/p>\n
