Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The island of Sal already has the first public charging station for electric vehicles. The recharge infrastructure, inaugurated this Thursday, is the first of eight stations to be installed on the island of Sal, four in Santa Maria and four in Espargos.<\/p>\n

The public charging stations will operate through a mobile application, available for both Android and Apple iOS systems, provided by the company Trac\u0327o\u0303es Ele\u0301tricas de Cabo Verde, winner of the international tender, which is responsible for installing, operating and operating the charging stations.<\/p>\n

The system allows the user to have information such as the energy to be charged, the power of the recharge during the session, the estimated time for the recharge, in addition to a notification to release the station at the end of the recharge.<\/p>\n

Reduce consumption of fossil fuels<\/p>\n

According to the director general of A\u0301guas de Ponta Preta, Damia\u0300 Pujol, the objective now, after this first step, is to implement the remaining stations throughout the country, reduce the import of fossil fuels and increase the penetration of renewable energies in the country.<\/p>\n

Damia\u0300 Pujol explained that Cape Verde is in the top 50 countries with potential for photovoltaic radiation, which adapts to any type of consumption and is gradually spreading fossil fuel vehicles.<\/p>\n

Reduce import of fossil fuels<\/p>\n

Likewise, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Energy, Alexandre Monteiro, who presided over the inauguration, stressed that the commitment to electric mobility is a way of reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn terms of the volume of fuel consumed internally, land transport represents 30%, together with a significant part of electricity, which is why we want to bring renewable energies to land mobility\u201d, explained the minister.<\/p>\n

Electric mobility in maritime transport<\/p>\n

The minister also pointed out the Government’s ambition to introduce electric mobility in maritime transport, starting with small fishing vessels, with studies in this area having been initiated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe commitment to electric mobility also represents advantages in relation to transport costs, in addition to environmental advantages, with a contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gases\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

For the responsible for the Energy portfolio, these are the steps that show Sal Island’s journey towards a clean and sustainable energy matrix.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that, within the scope of the Electric Mobility Project in Cape Verde, the installation of 40 public charging stations in all the islands of the country is foreseen.<\/p>\n

The project is funded by the Mitigation Action Facility and is being implemented by the National Directorate for Industry, Commerce and Energy, with technical assistance from the German Agency for Public Cooperation.<\/p>\n
