Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Higher education on the island of Fogo starts at the beginning of the next academic year, in October, with courses in agronomy and geology. The strategy, according to the Government, is to promote higher education with vocation and proximity.<\/p>\n

The installation of the University of Cape Verde pole follows the creation of the Technical University of the Atlantic (UTA) in Sa\u0303o Vicente, the Institute of Agricultural and Technological Sciences in Santo Anta\u0303o and the perspective of the creation of the Institute of Aeronautics and Tourist Industries on the island of Sal.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, who was at the launch of the training offer, and underlined that higher education on the island is something strategically thought out to, first, make higher education closer and, second, that the training offers are defined and established make sense in relation to the vocation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is no coincidence that geology, volcanology and agronomy are on the island of Fogo. They have everything to do with the island and its vocation\u201d, highlighted Ulisses Correia e Silva, noting that the courses that were announced mean the start of a process, hoping that young people can take advantage of this opportunity.<\/p>\n

40 scholarships will be awarded<\/p>\n

According to the head of government, the conditions have been created with the attribution of 40 scholarships and there is a good involvement of the city councils in the region to provide additional support, so that there is mobility for students who are outside Sa\u0303o Filipe, to attend, as well as students from other islands.<\/p>\n

For the head of government, the conditions have been created, such as the support of the Ministry of Education, Uni-CV and Municipal Chambers, to take the next step and take advantage of and promote this offer.<\/p>\n

The course in the area of \u200b\u200bgeology has the collaboration of the partner universities of La Laguna (Canary Islands) and the Institute of Vulcanology and risk assessment of the University of the Azores and, for the area of \u200b\u200bagronomy, with the partnership of the university of Tra\u0301s os Montes and Alto Minho which, moreover, supported Uni-CV in the preparation of the plans, but also with the partnership of the Government and the municipalities of the region.<\/p>\n
