Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted Cabo Verde as an example in adopting exemplary policies and initiatives aimed at combating smoking and reducing tobacco consumption.<\/p>\n

The distinction appears in the report on the \u201cWorld Tobacco Epidemic \u2013 Protecting people from tobacco smoke\u201d, released by the organization, which evaluated public anti-smoking measures in 2022, in 195 countries, with Cabo Verde occupying the third position among Portuguese-speaking countries.<\/p>\n

In this group of countries (with the exception of Portugal), details the same source, Brazil is in the first position with a higher level of taxation (80.2%), followed by Equatorial Guinea (33.2%), Cabo Verde (30.2%), Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe (29.9%), Mozambique (23.9%), Angola (18%) and Guinea-Bissau (5.7%).<\/p>\n

Overall, the WHO emphasises that, \u201cwhile progress has been steady since 2007\u201d, its pace has slowed since 2018 and that as of 2020, five low- and middle-income countries that previously had no good practice measures in place (Cabo Verde, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Sudan and Zambia) have reached the highest level on one or more measures.<\/p>\n
