Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Yesterday, Sunday, Germany became world basketball champions for the first time, after beating Serbia, by 83-77, in the final of the competition, in a game played in Pasay, Philippines. To reach the final, the Germans eliminated the USA by 113 to 111, which had to settle for a fourth place.<\/p>\n

After a balanced first half, with a 47-47 tie at halftime, the Germans took the lead and closed the third period with a 12-point lead and, despite the Serbs’ reaction in the last period, managed to hold the advantage.<\/p>\n

Germany, who had the best result in third place in 2002, achieved their first basketball world title, with Serbia, who had been a defeated finalist in 2014, taking the silver medal, while Canada, who won, in the Saturday, the United States finished third and took bronze, in a competition that took place in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.<\/p>\n

USA off the podium for the second consecutive world championship<\/b><\/p>\n

Without their main NBA players, the Americans, in turn, are off the podium for the second consecutive World Cup, ranked seventh in China 2019, the last World Cup in the sport.<\/p>\n

For the first time, Canada entered the podium of a men’s basketball World Cup. The Canadians counted on great performances from Dillon Brooks and Shai Gilgeous-Walker to beat the United States 127-118 in overtime. Cape Verde had six points, as a result of a victory over Venezuela (81-75) and four defeats, against Georgia (60-85), Slovenia (77-92), Finland (100-77) and Japan ( 80-71), totaling five games.<\/p>\n

In the preview of the World Cup, the International Basketball Federation FIBA, saw Cape Verde in the penultimate position on the list of favorites, just ahead of Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n

Of the Portuguese-speaking countries, Brazil’s team was the best ranked, coming in 13th place, followed by Angola in 26th place and Cape Verde in 28th place.<\/p>\n
