Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva considered the \u201cadjustment made\u201d in relation to salaries at BCV to be \u201cnormal\u201d, because, as he said, it makes no sense for directors and advisors to earn more than the institution\u2019s managers. From New York, where he is on a mission, the head of the Government reacted in this way to the news in the weekly edition of the newspaper A NAC\u0327A\u0303O no 838 of 21 September, which reports on salary increases of around 17 and 18.4% for Governor and administrators of BCV.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Cape Verde bank currently has a salary system that places directors and advisors at a higher salary level than the bank governor and administrators. Therefore, this (increase) is understandable\u201d, argued Ulisses Correia e Silva to the press, from New York, yesterday, where he is participating in the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations.<\/p>\n

The head of the Cape Verdean Executive recalled that in the case of entities that are \u201cof the corporate, institutional type\u201d, such as the BCV, despite being public, \u201cit does not make much sense for there to be a negative salary differentiation, in relation to those who have increased responsibilities in their roles\u201d.<\/p>\n

As he argued, in this context, \u201cit is only because of this\u201d that the respective adaptation was made.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that there is no negative differentiation between the salaries of those who have additional management responsibilities. I’m talking about governors and administrators in relation to directors, advisors and consultants. It\u2019s just this correction that was made,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

MpD Praia against<\/p>\n

It should be noted that this morning, MpD Praia also reacted to the aforementioned salary increases, clearly opposing it, as it was \u201can affront to Cape Verdeans\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the majority of Cape Verdean citizens are facing economic difficulties and struggling to survive, it is unacceptable that those in power receive such substantial salary increases.\u201d<\/p>\n

These reactions arose following the news in the weekly edition of the newspaper A NAC\u0327A\u0303O no 838 of 21 September, which reported salary increases of around 17 and 18.4% for the Governor and administrators of the BCV.<\/p>\n
