Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>At a press conference in Mindelo today, UCID denounced alleged situations of labour injustice in the City Council of Sa\u0303o Vicente and urged Mayor Augusto Neves to \u201ctake better care\u201d of the municipality\u2019s employees.<\/p>\n

This, according to the president of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID, opposition), Joa\u0303o Santos Lui\u0301s, so that collaborators can, in turn, have the conditions to take care of the results that the island of Sa\u0303o Vicente wants and expects, to continue following its path of development \u201cwithout a hitch\u201d.<\/p>\n

At issue, according to the same source, is the fact that nine months later the Sa\u0303o Vicente City Council has still not implemented the salary readjustment determined by the government, through the 2023 State Budget, of 3.5 per cent for workers and pensioners whose salary or pension ranges between 15,000 escudos and 33,000 escudos, 2 per cent above 33,000 escudos and up to 51,000 escudos, and 1 per cent above 51,000 escudos and up to 69,000 escudos.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven considering the salary adjustment determined by the Government to be meager, the employees of the city council have not yet seen the color of the implementation of this measure, which is why the UCID demands that the mayor assume his responsibility in full and order the salary adjustment to be processed with effect from January 2023\u201d, reinforced the leader of the Christian Democrats.<\/p>\n
