Cape Verde has been moving \u201cvery slowly\u201d on the issue of implementing decent work, Jo\u00e3o Carvalho Jo\u00e3o de Carvalho made this statement in statements to Inforpress when speaking about the 5th National Conference for Decent Work, to be held on the 6th in the Town Hall of Praia City Council, under the motto \u201cEntrepreneurship with Dignity\u201d, aiming to mark the Day World Cup for Decent Work marked on October 7th.<\/p>\n

The president of ISSO, who defends an analysis and evaluation of the country in this matter, also stated that it is necessary to fulfill the commitments with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in this matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have observed several accidents at work and even deaths, which is why we believe that it is necessary that those responsible, the supervisory entity, have a greater presence on the ground so that we can achieve decent work\u201d, he asserted, declaring, on the other hand, that the country is on a journey \u201ctowards decent work\u201d that needs to be implemented.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted that the institution that must carry out the inspection within the scope of work is the General Directorate of Labor, therefore, he said, if this happens, the existing law in the country will be enforced.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ISSO, as a non-governmental organization, has requested information on this matter from the Directorate-General for Labor, but it never reaches us properly\u201d, he explained, highlighting that the organization, in this matter, has raised awareness in order to appeal to the safety in the work environment.<\/p>\n

He also informed that ISSO has long sought to be a partner of the Directorate-General for Labor, with regard to decent work, but has not been taken as such, so, as he said, it remains up to him as an NGO to draw attention on the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs related to decent work.<\/p>\n

In view of this responsibility, he added that on the 6th, ISSO will hold, in the morning, in the Municipality of Praia’s Hall, the 5th National Conference for Decent Work, this time under the motto \u201cEntrepreneurship with Dignity\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur main objective is to celebrate International Decent Work Day. To this end, we will bring together, in the same space, technicians and specialists in the field to debate decent work in the country, as it is everyone’s interest to ensure that it is increasingly safer, healthier and more dignified\u201d, he stressed, stating that he will count on the participation of employers, unions and workers so that together they can seek to analyze and define \u201clights\u201d to dignify work in Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

In addition to the debate on fair work and equal treatment, he highlighted the conditions of safety at work, which he considers to also be an important issue of interest to workers and employers, as he defends the worker’s right to protection and health.<\/p>\n

At the 5th National Conference for Decent Work, the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health will count on the participation of INE to address the profile of decent work in the country through the presentation of real data, presenting themes linked to the issue of the fundamental right to work dignified, address issues linked to reconciling work and family life, as well as the informal economy and decent work.<\/p>\n

The president of ISSO, who wants to have a \u201crich\u201d environment for the reflection of the guests, also maintains that without data it is not possible to assess the situation of decent work, which is why he says he hopes that the INE data will help them to have this instrument of debate .<\/p>\n
