Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>MpD deputy Vander Gomes said today that his party hopes to obtain an absolute majority in the S\u00e3o Vicente chamber in the next elections, highlighting that the opposition parties \u201cproved to be unworthy\u201d of the vote of San Vicente residents.<\/p>\n

\nThe parliamentarian, elected on the lists of the Movement for Democracy (MpD, power) for the S\u00e3o Vicente constituency, made these statements to Inforpress, during the press conference, to take a position on the statements made by the president of the UCID, Jo\u00e3o Santos Lu\u00eds, who stated that the Government is \u201cunwise\u201d and acts with \u201cdouble standards\u201d.<\/p>\n

He accused the opposition parties, namely the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID, opposition) and the Cape Verde African Independence Party (PAICV, opposition) of being \u201cagainst the development\u201d of S\u00e3o Vicente and of being in a political tantrum .<\/p>\n

\u201cThese parties have demonstrated that they are not worthy of trust and certainly, the people of S\u00e3o Vicente will give a safe, absolute majority that will allow the MpD to govern well in S\u00e3o Vicente\u201d, he declared.<\/p>\n

Asked what guarantees his party has to maintain the S\u00e3o Vicente chamber in the next elections, Vander Gomes assured that San Vicente residents recognize that the MpD is a party that is committed to the development of the island.<\/p>\n

\u201cS\u00e3o Vicente was forgotten and neglected for many years and in these almost eight years of MpD governance, the economic dynamics that S\u00e3o Vicente is having never had during the years of PAICV governance. With the city council led by the MpD, the dynamics of urban requalification and housing construction have been visible to everyone,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

The MpD deputy also highlighted that taking into account \u201cthe dynamics and projects implemented\u201d by the MpD on the island of S\u00e3o Vicente, both at the level of local power and at the level of central power, the confidence recovered in 2004 will be reinforced in the local elections 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe that the people of S\u00e3o Vicente, seeing that the opposition parties are more concerned with political interests than with the development of the island, will certainly give an enlightening victory that allows the MpD to actually govern\u201d, he reinforced, stressing that the \u201ccohabitation\u201d with PAICV and UCID \u201chas not worked\u201d.<\/p>\n

Asked whether the current mayor of S\u00e3o Vicente, Augusto Neves, will be the MpD’s choice for next year’s elections, Vander Gomes said that his party, at the right time, will make its choices and that in due time, the party bodies will choose their candidates, which could be Augusto Neves or another chosen person, who will have the full support of the MpD political system.
