Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Joa\u0303o Cardoso, today highlighted the importance of journalists being increasingly trained in training on technical analysis of economic statistical data.<\/p>\n

INE highlights the importance of \u201cincreasingly qualified\u201d journalists in technical analysis of statistical data<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Cardoso made this statement during his speech at the opening ceremony of a training course aimed at journalists on the analysis and interpretation of economic statistics, which runs from today to Friday, the 13th.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe objective of this training is to enable us to provide better information because we know that when journalists are better trained, they will certainly provide better information. We intend for it to be an interactive training and allow people to establish bonds\u201d, declared the same source.<\/p>\n

He reinforced, in this sense, that this initiative will be an added value for both journalists and INE itself, pointing out the need for journalists to carry out in-depth analysis of the data that the National Statistics Institute makes available.<\/p>\n

In turn, the administrator of Inforpress, Hamilton Jair Fernandes, classified the training action as \u201ca milestone and an opportunity\u201d for journalists to increasingly improve their knowledge of statistical data, which often requires deeper interpretation , thus allowing readers greater clarity on this issue.<\/p>\n

This training, he added, is part of the policy of valuing Inforpress employees, indicating the recent update of the statute of Inforpress and the PCSS itself, defending, on the other hand, the need to create synergies between the institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf these training actions, I would undoubtedly highlight what we will start today, later, we will have another training with Age\u0302ncia Lusa and in the future in slightly broader concepts and in slightly more comprehensive content, next year it will have a more technical focus in form to internationalize the actions and good practices that Cape Verde has and can share with the world through social communication\u201d, summarized Hamilton Jair Fernandes.<\/p>\n

In turn, the president of the Cape Verde Journalists Association (AJOC), Geremias Furtado, highlighted that this training action will contribute to the dissemination and higher quality of statistical information provided to the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to congratulate and thank INE for thinking and idealizing this initiative and calling AJOC to participate as a partner, we joined immediately because we understood the importance of this training\u201d, he highlighted, considering, on the other hand, that these initiatives contribute to the construction of specialized journalism in Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

He regretted, however, the poor participation of journalists in the aforementioned training action and the failure to accept the importance of the initiative by the media in Cape Verde, stressing that this situation has worried AJOC, taking into account the new challenges that impose themselves on the profession.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, this is what has happened, several training activities are promoted and the participation of journalists has been very low, therefore, it is a challenge that remains not only for journalists, but also for the media, which must understand the importance of training and capacity building actions\u201d, he said, asserting that these trainings contribute to \u201cimproving the quality\u201d of information.<\/p>\n

INE’s mission is to produce and disseminate, in an efficient manner, official statistical information of \u201creliable, current and punctual\u201d quality, necessary for objective knowledge of a changing society, which helps Cape Verdeans to better understand their country, the population, its resources, its economy, its society and its culture.<\/p>\n
