Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>National Culture and Communities Day is marked today by all the islands and the Cape Verdean diaspora, with the pedestrian street (Plat\u00f4) becoming the stage for a series of cultural and social activities in the capital.<\/p>\n

Pedestrian Street in Plat\u00f4 celebrates National Culture and Communities Day
\nThe event in the heart of the Cape Verdean capital was marked by the Banda Militar parade, under the command of conductor Roberto Tavares, preceded by a fashion show by \u201cHouse Of Onix\u201d and funan\u00e1 with traditional artist Binho, founder of the group \u201cRabenta \u201d, off the Raiz di Polon space, to the delight of passers-by.<\/p>\n

Artist and performer Mano Preto, who organized the event, said it was a day of reflection, claiming that \u201cfor artists, every day is dedicated to culture, but when there is a date that values \u200b\u200band celebrates culture more , Raiz de Polon strengthens its usual contribution\u201d.<\/p>\n

The \u201cmaster\u201d of funan\u00e1 Bino Branca took advantage of the stage, in the open air, to, despite the scorching sun that is felt this October, convey his \u201cpedaling\u201d to those present with his usual repertoire, arguing that Cape Verde is worth especially for its culture and its people.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Vandreia Monteiro, from the Ministry of Culture, said that this year the entire official agenda was held on purpose on the streets, in order to better reach the population, and announced a \u201cshow\u201d by saxophonist Totinho in the afternoon on the doorstep of the Ethnographic Museum.<\/p>\n

Still in the afternoon, he said, there will be the \u201cCultura em Movimento\u201d march, starting at 4:00 pm, along the main arteries of the capital, which will culminate in a musical moment, with several artists, at Largo do Auditorio Nacional Jorge Barbosa, in Ch\u00e3 de Sand.<\/p>\n

The day also includes visits by Integrated Basic Education (EBI) students to the Am\u00edlcar Cabral Memorial and a visit to the National Archives of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

Throughout the day, several schools from the Bolsa de Acesso \u00e0 Cultura (BA-Cultura) program carry out cultural activities on different islands.<\/p>\n

The central activities of the national day of culture and communities, however, take place in the city of Lisbon, in Portugal, where a series of cultural events are taking place, under the presidency of the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abra\u00e3o Vicente.<\/p>\n

The anniversary honors the birth of the musician, poet and writer Eug\u00e9nio de Paula Tavares, considered the patron saint of Cape Verde culture, who died at the age of 63 in Vila Nova Sintra, on the island of Brava.<\/p>\n
