Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Attorney General of the Republic, Lui\u0301s Jose\u0301 Landim, recognized this Monday the efforts made for the Justice sector in Cape Verde, but said he was \u201cnot satisfied\u201d with the current situation in the country.<\/p>\n

The same source cited by Inforpress admitted that it is necessary to \u201cchange and alter \u201d the current scenario, when speaking to journalists after a parliamentary hearing of the 1st Specialized Commission on Constitutional Affairs, Human Rights, Security and State Reform.<\/p>\n

\u201c I am sure that I am not as Attorney General of the Republic, as President of the Superior Council of the Public Ministry and as a magistrate that I am also, and I believe that no one is, not even the deputies are satisfied, certainly, neither the Government nor the population of a shape in general \u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

He added that since 2016 efforts have been made and conditions have been created in terms of facilities, equipment and appointments of magistrates, but they are \u201cinsufficient \u201d, and the pending issue is \u201c very large \u201d and that \u201cit is advisable to attack in a very direct way and frontal\u201d and with means.<\/p>\n

He explained that in terms of investigating criminal cases, there are currently \u201cmore than 86,000 cases\u201d for 36 active prosecutors, which gives an average of 2,398 cases for each one, nationally.<\/p>\n

He revealed that in the City of Praia, \u201c where most of the problems reside and the volume of cases is much higher \u201d, each prosecutor has an average of 5,665 cases.<\/p>\n

He added that there are 134 bailiffs, 45 magistrates and that, of the 86,342 cases, 28,550 have been resolved and concluded<\/p>\n

Also according to Lui\u0301s Jose\u0301 Landim mentioned by Inforpress, the framework continues to be \u201cquite insufficient \u201d for the volume of existing processes, despite the number of pending cases reducing by 2.8% in the last year.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, he said that in terms of collaboration with the National Police, at country level, there had been \u201c some reduction \u201d because the existing research centers in the districts and other islands \u201c were unable to provide answers correctly due to lack of staff \u201d, with the exception of Praia City.<\/p>\n

In relation to the Judicial Police, he said that it \u201c improved slightly \u201d, with an increase in the City of Praia and a deficit on the islands of Boa Vista and Sa\u0303o Vicente.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Sal, Santa Catarina and Cidade da Praia there was a slight increase in collaboration. We want much more and we will also continue to fight to see if we can have more collaboration from the police, because we have a criminal investigation law that establishes the competences of each of the police in terms of investigation \u201d, added the PGR according to Inforpress.<\/p>\n
