Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Cape Verdean Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, participates on Wednesday and Thursday in the European Union (EU) Global Gateway forum, in Brussels, with strengthening relations on the agenda.<\/p>\n

“It is relevant to highlight the special partnership between Cape Verde and the European Union, which has existed for more than a decade, with prospects for reinforcement in strategic areas such as security and defense, blue economy, digital transformation and energy transition”, announced the Government, in a statement .<\/p>\n

Ulisses Correia e Silva’s agenda includes meetings with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the vice-president and high representative, Josep Borrell, among others.<\/p>\n

The Cape Verdean Prime Minister will also meet with the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, in what is classified as “an opportune occasion to reaffirm Cape Verde’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law and intensifying political dialogue and cooperation in defense of international order”.<\/p>\n

On the sidelines of the trip to Brussels, Ulisses Correia e Silva also has a meeting scheduled with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel.<\/p>\n

The EU’s ‘Global Gateway’ Strategy foresees investments of around 300 billion euros for development in African and Latin American countries.<\/p>\n

“Cape Verde highlights, in its participation, renewable energy, the blue economy and digital development as priority areas for the country”, says the Government, in the same statement.<\/p>\n

The executive highlights that, already this year, Cape Verde was selected in the field of renewables with the project to install an energy storage station produced by renewable sources outside of peak hours (when electricity generated by wind is not being consumed, for example).<\/p>\n

The venture was chosen as part of the EU initiative that listed 40 projects from European financial institutions for approval by the management of Global Gateway as flagship actions supported by the EU in Africa in 2023.<\/p>\n
