Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Gulbenkian and La Caixa foundations allocated support of 150 thousand euros to five health researcher projects in Cape Verde, Angola and Mozambique, over the next three years, to strengthen training in clinical research.<\/p>\n

\u201cFive women will conduct research projects in the areas of cancer, malaria, respiratory diseases and genetics over the next three years, in Cape Verde, Angola and Mozambique, as part of the \u201cWe \u0301Search \u2013 Support for clinical research projects in the PALOP\u201d, in a partnership between the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the La Caixa Foundation\u201d, the two entities announced today in a statement sent to Lusa.<\/p>\n

The projects now awarded were selected \u201camong 75 applications and focus on a set of chronic diseases that particularly affect the population of these countries\u201d, the text also adds, which explains the objective of each of the projects: \u201cstrengthening skills in clinical research in research centers, reinforcing knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Spanish La Caixa Foundation have been collaborating, since 2015, in the area of \u200b\u200bhealth research in Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP).<\/p>\n

At the end of 2022, they signed a collaboration protocol to develop a program that encourages the countries’ scientific community to carry out research projects that contribute to improving the provision of healthcare.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is how the We’Search program was born, a competition to strengthen scientific institutions and clinical research projects in the PALOP, in an initiative that represents a total commitment worth 750 thousand euros for the two foundations\u201d, says the statement.<\/p>\n
