A mission from the Order of Engineers of Cape Verde (OECV), led by the president, Carlos Monteiro, is visiting the island of Fogo with the aim of finding out about the damage caused by this year’s rains and what possible contributions the Order can make.<\/p>\n

Likewise, the idea is to analyze the pulse of engineers registered on the island of Fogo and who are members of the regional board of Santiago, Fogo, Maio and Brava.<\/p>\n

The president held working meetings with the mayors of Santa Catarina and S\u00e3o Filipe, the two most affected by the rains, and visited some critical point in the city of S\u00e3o Filipe.<\/p>\n

Carlos Monteiro said that it is the Government’s responsibility to place engineers in municipal councils to reinforce their skills, stressing that \u201cit is urgent and necessary\u201d for this to happen so that the councils can adequately respond to the challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not appropriate for there to be chambers without engineers duly registered in the Order or that have difficulty in having a technical body with the necessary competence\u201d, he said, highlighting that development is not done only with good will, but there must be financial resources and skills suited to the challenges of each island and municipality.<\/p>\n

Regarding the establishment of a collaboration protocol proposed by the S\u00e3o Filipe council, the president said that it is in line with his institution that is committed to approaching the municipal councils, highlighting that the Order of Engineers will work on a proposal for the protocol and define the contribution of each part.<\/p>\n

The idea of \u200b\u200bestablishing a protocol shows that the S\u00e3o Filipe council \u201cis willing to cooperate\u201d with the Order of Engineers, he said.<\/p>\n
