Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Regional Political Commission (CPR) of the MpD-Santiago Norte today accused the Santa Cruz City Council of committing \u201cserious illegality and violation\u201d of the rights of the 120 employees of the Sanitation service in the matter of the salary increase.<\/p>\n

At a press conference, deputy and member of the CPR from Santiago Norte David Gomes stated that the Santa Cruz council pays these employees a salary \u201cof just 11 thousand escudos\u201d, an amount that he considers \u201clower\u201d than the national minimum wage.<\/p>\n

The same source accused the municipality of persisting in \u201cnot updating their salaries\u201d, in accordance with the 2013 PCCS, which provides for these employees to be classified in the level I operational support category, on the salary scale of 15 thousand escudos, with effect retractive to 2013.<\/p>\n

He added that this institution still refuses to carry out the 2.2% salary update in 2019, and the 3.5% salary adjustment in 2023 attributed by the Government to public administration employees.<\/p>\n

David Gomes also said that employees are not registered with the INPS (social security), which \u201cis mandatory\u201d, stressing that this also constitutes a violation of labor laws and the Constitution of the Republic.<\/p>\n

To try to justify these \u201cunjustifiable illegalities\u201d, the deputy and member of the CPR of Santiago Norte who is the president of the Santa Cruz City Council explained that this institution has 700 employees, but, on the other hand, it should clarify why the municipality has this \u201c exaggerated number of employees.<\/p>\n

This is because, as he explained, during PAICV’s mandate the Santa Cruz council has hired \u201ca large number of campaign activists and political commissioners\u201d to work \u201cwithout honesty, transparency or public competition\u201d.<\/p>\n

Given this scenario, the MpD \u201crepudiates\u201d these acts of violation of the country’s labor laws, carried out by the Santa Cruz City Council.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ask for the intervention of the competent authorities, in order to put an end to this situation, in order to safeguard the rights of employees, as the City Council has ignored the demands and manifestations of the aforementioned employees\u201d, he stressed, adding that even with the intervention of the union \u201cnothing was done\u201d.<\/p>\n

Finally, David Gomes expressed MpD’s \u201ctotal solidarity\u201d with these 120 employees, who \u201ccan count\u201d on the support of this party in the fight that he considers \u201cfair\u201d for their \u201cdignity\u201d.<\/p>\n

Last Monday, 6th, at a press conference in the city of Pedra Badejo, the president of the Santa Cruz City Council, Carlos Silva, announced the salary increase for these 120 sanitation professionals, starting in March 2024.<\/p>\n

He also added that in addition to the salary increase, they will have access to INPS coverage and start working eight hours a day, in addition to meeting other demands of these sanitation professionals, especially the PCCS, in 2024. The Week with Inforpress<\/p>\n
