Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The regional director of the UCID, Juscelino Vieira, asked this Tuesday for \u201curgent\u201d intervention from the Praia council to resolve the situation of the saleswomen and ‘hiacistas’ at Sucupira, who are distressed by various situations due to the delay in the delivery of the works.<\/p>\n

We went to visit the ongoing works in Sucupira, which, according to the deadline initially announced by Praia City Council, should have been ready since October. Failure to meet the deadline has caused enormous losses for salespeople and ‘hiacistas’, who seek to support their families and pay their taxes\u201d, said the regional director of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID) of Santiago Sul , at a press conference.<\/p>\n

Juscelino Vieira highlighted that traders, heads of families, face several difficulties in carrying out their activities on site, due to the delay in that work, in addition to not having received any prior notice about it.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that these women are distressed because of a lot of dust and damage to their products, also due to a lack or poor power cut and the confusion that is taking place in the place at the moment.<\/p>\n

The leader of the UCID in Santiago Sul also highlighted another constraint that has to do with the road sealing, every Sunday, on Avenida Cidade de Lisboa and that the council \u201cprefers not to give any satisfaction\u201d to anyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe consider that when works are public, they are carried out with public and taxpayer money and, therefore, more respect is required for taxpayers, in this specific case, the traders of Sucupira\u201d, he said, challenging the mayor to hold a meeting to talk to traders.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Juscelino Vieira said that when visiting the neighborhoods of Calabaceira, Vila Nova and Safende, they came across situations that deserve some \u201cattention\u201d from the council, namely, the unfinished drainage works.<\/p>\n

He also added that many young people are complaining about not having adequate leisure spaces and that they need maintenance for sports, especially in the areas of Safende, Vila Nova, and Paiol.<\/p>\n

The regional director of the UCID also pointed out situations of houses with roofs in ruins, which, at any moment, could collapse, and people who do not have the resources to renovate the roofs of their homes, as well as public lighting in these areas that needs to be improved. .<\/p>\n

\u201cWe challenge the Praia City Council to be more attentive to the needs of Praia\u2019s residents, especially young people, who complain that they do not want to be visited only during electoral campaign periods, only to then be completely forgotten,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
