Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic considered today, in the City of Praia, that Aristides Pereira’s leadership resonates as an inspiring model for future generations due to the challenges faced on the African continent and the legacy left that echoes in history.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Maria Neves made this statement in the opening speech of the solemn session to mark the centenary of the birth of Arisides Pereira, first president of the Republic of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n

\u201c The attributes that we find in this unique figure, who was the first Cape Verdean head of state, a human being who generated broad consensus, can set the tone to introduce an opportune debate on the contemporary history of Cape Verde\u201d, he pointed out .<\/p>\n

During his speech, he considered that the leaders of Aristides Pereira’s generation leave references for current times.<\/p>\n

\u201c We must value the contribution of the honoree and his generation, not only for the achievement of the independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, but also for the construction of the State and social progress in our country\u201d, he argued .<\/p>\n

The head of state therefore highlighted the importance of this celebration and highlighted the need to preserve the memory of the figures who shaped the history of the Cape Verdean nation in the most varied areas.<\/p>\n

\u201c My hope is to change the relationship we still have with our heroes of all times\u201d , said Jos\u00e9 Maria Neves, noting that Cape Verde is a tribute to the countless qualities \u201c that this son of his, with a discreet and austere personality, managed to put into service of the country, especially as the first president of the Republic \u201d.<\/p>\n

The solemn session also witnessed a conference on the life and work of Aristides Pereira and the launch of the book \u201c Aristides Pereira, Remembering the Man, Building History \u201d, an edition of the Am\u00edlcar Cabral Foundation that was highly sponsored by the President of the Republic .<\/p>\n

Born in Boa Vista on November 17, 1923, Aristides Pereira was the first President of the Republic of independent Cape Verde, a position he held until the democratic elections of 1991, the first free elections in the country.<\/p>\n

Aristides Pereira was born on November 17, 1923, on the island of Boa Vista and died on September 22, 2011, in Portugal, at the age of 88, victim of a prolonged illness. The Week with Inforpress<\/p>\n
