Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Am\u00edlcar Cabral Foundation (FAC) today rejected the considerations of the Cape Verdean Minister of Culture, who, on Friday, accused it of seeking prominence by taking the initiative to announce the handover of Am\u00edlcar Cabral’s archives to UNESCO.<\/p>\n

The FAC limited itself to saying [in a statement] that the candidacy dossier had been delivered to UNESCO [United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization] by the competent entities, namely: National Committee for the Memory of the World , National Commission for UNESCO and Permanent Mission of Cape Verde to UNESCO, in Paris \u201d, wrote the foundation today, in a new statement.<\/p>\n

The institution says that \u201c it was another peaceful demonstration of rejoicing\u201d at the conclusion of an \u201cimportant stage of the process, whilst expressing its recognition to the institutions and people who contributed to making this happen\u201d .<\/p>\n

\u201cFar from any controversy and misunderstandings, what matters is that we continue to join forces so that the candidacy reaches a successful conclusion, as everyone wishes\u201d, added the FAC, showing itself to be \u201c open to constructive dialogue \u201d.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the foundation considered that \u201c the legacy and figure of Am\u00edlcar Cabral do not belong to anyone, but rather a heritage of all Cape Verdeans \u201d, reiterating the invitation to everyone to celebrate \u201c the Centenary with their own initiatives by Am\u00edlcar Cabral, in 2024 \u201d.<\/p>\n

The Cape Verdean Minister of Culture, Abra\u00e3o Vicente, accused the FAC on Friday of \u201c getting ahead \u201d to \u201c appear \u201d to have submitted the candidacy \u201c without the work of the State and the UNESCO National Commission \u201d.<\/p>\n

He also considered that the announcement was \u201c hasty\u201d , mentioning that there is \u201c joint work \u201d, considering it harmful to \u201c seek protagonism through the name of Am\u00edlcar Cabral \u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201c Here there is clearly an attempt to give a certificate of incompetence to State institutions, something that I will not let go unnoticed because I am not in any ideological dispute\u201d, he continued, alluding to the fact that the Government is supported by the Movement for Democracy (MpD), while Am\u00edlcar Cabral founded the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC), which gave rise to the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, currently in opposition).<\/p>\n

The minister also alluded to the fact that, on October 30, the MpD disapproved a resolution presented by PAICV in parliament to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the leader of the independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, on September 12, 2024 .<\/p>\n

\u201c The disputes and the rejection of a document in parliament did not change the Ministry of Culture’s agenda \u201d, he added, reaffirming the Government’s support for submitting the application to UNESCO.<\/p>\n
