Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The Social Solidarity Association of Alto da Cova da Moura (ASSACM), a neighborhood in the municipality of Amadora where the residents are mostly Cape Verdeans, points to the financial issue as the biggest constraint on services provided to the community.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Inforpress, the president of ASSACM, which this year is celebrating 43 years of existence, Vanda Carmo, said that cultural diversity characterizes the municipality of Amadora (Portugal) and that Cova da Moura, as it is a neighborhood where the largest part of the population has always been Cape Verdean, the organization has a \u201cmuch more direct\u201d relationship with the ambassador and the Cabo Verde Cultural Center (CCCV).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe challenges are even more financial. Project reimbursements are not always as quick as would be desirable, as we are a non-profit institution, we do not have our own funds and it is through these projects that we develop all these services to the community, which are free\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\n

Among these services provided are the approximately 50 children that the association receives, with study support, some recreational and sporting activities and social support for around 200 families, monthly, without forgetting the Local Immigrant Support Center, through a partnership which is funded by the High Commission for Migration (now the Portuguese Agency for Minorities, Migrations and Asylum).<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Vanda Carmo recalled that the institution she runs also has the support of the Food Bank, with snacks for children, baskets that are distributed weekly to families who seek them, and who also receive free psychological support and legal support.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is often required of us is that we develop these projects, present the services, with results, but then it takes a long time to receive the financing and this is causing us some constraints in the work we are developing in favor of of the community\u201d, highlighted the association leader.<\/p>\n

Vanda Carmo maintained that the support is integrated into projects and is made available to the community, not only in the Cova da Moura neighborhood, but also in Amadora itself.<\/p>\n

In this neighborhood, according to her, you always end up having Cape Verde in the Alto da Cova da Moura Social Solidarity Association, celebrating Cape Verdean culture, knowledge, rhythms and all the flavors, several times during the year in various activities they develop.<\/p>\n

The Social Solidarity Association of Alto da Cova da Moura (ASSACM), created on February 13, 1980, functions as a Community Center, and over these decades it has improved and innovated its intervention within the community of the neighborhood where it operates. and surrounding area.<\/p>\n

It establishes an extensive network of partnerships with public and private entities, with the objectives of promoting equality, training, development, sport, culture and recreation, in order to respond to the needs of the population.<\/p>\n

The association’s intervention is aimed at promoting the quality of community life and local development, with a team of professionals who, according to the management, work to guarantee the success of interventions, in the areas of psychology, rehabilitation and social insertion, social service, education, law, IT, sport and administrative services.<\/p>\n
