Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Cape Verde’s trade balance deficit fell by 15% in October, year-on-year, and the coverage rate of imports by exports decreased by 3.8 percentage points, to 2.8%, announced the National Statistics Institute (INE).The deficit is seven billion escudos (63.5 million euros), according to the October Foreign Trade Statistics bulletin.<\/p>\n

The provisional data, released on Thursday and consulted today by Lusa, indicate a decrease in exports of 65.6% compared to the same month in 2022.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, imports decreased by 18.3% in the same period.<\/p>\n

In year-on-year terms, Portugal reinforced its role as the main supplier of imports from Cape Verde, rising from 41.4% to 44.9% in October this year.<\/p>\n

Looking at economic zones, Europe is the region of origin for around three quarters (74%) of imports.<\/p>\n

Fuels top the list of imported products, although their weight decreased from 20.6% to 19.5%.<\/p>\n

Other products with less representation in the import basket recorded greater increases, such as motor vehicles and cement.<\/p>\n

Regarding Cape Verdean exports, Portugal strengthened its position as the main destination country (47.9% of exported products), followed by Spain (25.3%) and Italy (23%).<\/p>\n

Among Cape Verdean products sold abroad, clothing topped the October list (33.4%), followed by prepared foods and preserves (30%) and footwear (14.5%).<\/p>\n

INE also indicated a decrease in re-exports (goods from foreign countries that enter and are exported, without any processing) by 10.3% compared to the month of October 2022.<\/p>\n
