De\u0301mis Almeida launched this challenge at a press conference, following the stoppage of ‘hiaces’ services four days ago, since Friday, 1st, which has caused \u201c huge disruption \u201d in the normal functioning of the collective public passenger transport system.<\/p>\n

\u201c We are inclined towards a solution that does not matter the increase in current tariffs, because people are, in fact, suffering a huge loss of purchasing power. For us, the best solution, at this moment, is to maintain the tariffs as they are for users\u201d , he pointed out.<\/p>\n

\u201c But finding a way to effectively compensate the ‘hiacista’ owners for, in fact, a huge loss of profits and income that results from an already long outdated tariff plan, which has been going on since 1998, and to achieve this it is necessary that the council has in fact common sense \u201d, he reasoned.<\/p>\n

Questioning the \u201c silence\u201d of the chamber, De\u0301mis Almeida notes, however, that the PAICV is \u201cin no way\u201d defending attitudes towards setting tariffs outside of what the law provides.<\/p>\n

\u201c Owners have every right to demonstrate, to strike, but they must always ensure minimum services because users are not responsible for this situation \u201d, he reflected, defending the need for negotiations, consideration and balance, which the public passenger service be ensured, at least in its minimum terms, and on the part of the city council there is openness to negotiations.<\/p>\n
