Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>PAICV (opposition) deputies elected by the Santo Anta\u0303o constituency questioned today about \u201cthe real impact\u201d of the youth forums promoted by the Government \u201con the lives of young people from Santo Anta\u0303o\u201d.<\/p>\n

Regarding the National Youth Forum, which takes place in Santo Anta\u0303o (Porto Novo), PAICV parliamentarians on this island consider that this strategy \u201cis nothing more than attempts to divert the attention of young people in the face of the failure of policies aimed at youth\u201d of the current Government.<\/p>\n

In a note to which Inforpress had access, PAICV national elected officials refer to the fact that Cape Verde has \u201ca large rate of young population\u201d, between 15 and 35 years old, representing approximately 40 percent (%) of the population, Unemployment, particularly youth unemployment, which reached 27.3% in 2022, according to the same source, is \u201cone of the biggest current challenges\u201d.<\/p>\n

As part of a partnership between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government, Porto Novo, PAICV deputies recall, was elected in 2023 as Cape Verde’s capital city for youth, which culminated in the fourth National Youth Forum , which ends today.<\/p>\n

PAICV’s national elected representatives believe that this type of event aims to \u201cincrease the civic and political participation\u201d of youth within the scope of the 2030 and 2063 Agendas, but they are suspicious of the impact of the forums held by the executive \u201con the lives of young people\u201d on the island of Santo Anta\u0303o .<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must rejoice in the objectives underlying this initiative. However, we must question the real impact of these forums on the lives of young Cape Verdeans, particularly young people from Santanton\u201d, notes the same source, for whom this strategy \u201cis nothing more than an attempt to divert the attention of young people in the face of the failure of targeted policies the youth”.<\/p>\n

For PAICV’s national deputies, this Government still \u201cfailed to realize that the forums could only contribute to mitigating the evils that afflict the youth, if a set of proposals and recommendations produced in them were, effectively, taken seriously, and transformed into concrete policy measures by the Government\u201d.<\/p>\n
