Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Santa Catarina do Fogo City Council already has a contract with a local construction company to requalify and restore normality to the carriageable access road to the municipality’s coast.<\/p>\n

Isolated since September due to the damage caused by the rains, the contract for the requalification of the Maria da Cruz \u2013 Casinha road section, on the coast, falls within the scope of Council of Ministers resolution no. 63\/2023 of 26 September which declared a state of calamity in the Fogo\/Brava region.<\/p>\n

The selected company has a period of month and a half to requalify this section of road, which is funded by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing, through the National Emergency Fund.<\/p>\n

The mayor of Santa Catarina do Fogo, Alberto Nunes, recently told Inforpress that following the damage caused by the rains, it is not possible for vehicles to travel to places such as Casinha, Faja\u0303 and Alcatraz and even to Forapo\u0301, stressing that this means that the three bays are practically isolated, and the restoration of access will allow work on the second phase of Alcatraz Bay to continue and the first phase of Faja\u0303 Bay to begin.<\/p>\n

While work is underway to requalify the Maria da Cruz \u2013 Casinha section, the city council, according to its president, will, through its technical office, prepare the budget and specifications for the requalification of the remaining part of the section providing access to the municipality’s coast.<\/p>\n

It is recalled that within the framework of the declaration of a state of calamity, the municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo will receive 22 thousand contos from the Emergency Fund, with three thousand contos for the repair of the Forapo\u0301 local road, under construction by the Association of Friends of Forapo\u0301, another three thousand contos to repair the wall of the sports board and water drainage, with the management of both interventions being carried out by the city council.<\/p>\n

The largest portion, 16 thousand contos, is intended for repairing damage to the access road to the coast, namely Domingos Lobo to Alcatraz Bay and management will be carried out by the council and Estradas de Cabo Verde (ECV).<\/p>\n
