Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>This Friday, the Minister of Justice highlighted the issue of GBV (gender-based violence) and sexual violence against children as two major challenges facing the country, recognizing that there will only be gains if the Government is able to mobilize everyone around these issues.<\/p>\n

Joana Rosa made these considerations at the opening of the Reflection Forum on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: \u201c Looking at the Present and Projecting the Future \u201d, promoted by the National Commission for Human Rights and Citizenship (CNDHC), in partnership with the United Nations in Cape Verde and the Ombudsman’s Office.<\/p>\n

According to him, Cape Verde is a country engaged, not only in the promotion, but above all, in the realization of human rights, stressing that it is with this vision that it takes on the promotion of human rights as a fundamental challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201c It is proposed, in this way, to reinforce the conditions for the Judicial System to guarantee effective, faster, accessible, impartial and transparent justice, always based on respect for the rights, freedoms and guarantees of citizens \u201d, he argued.<\/p>\n

Citing the report presented to the United Nations, carried out by an Interministerial Commission, he recalled that Cape Verde was \u201cvery well evaluated, above all, for the effective gains it made\u201d from the 159 recommendations of 2018 in the field of Human Rights.<\/p>\n

At the level of Justice, for example, he highlighted gains in the ability to respond more quickly to demands, greater productivity of magistrates and officials, although he still recognizes \u201csome\u201d slowness.<\/p>\n

The minister also recognized that without civil society these gains would not be possible, for whom everyone must work so that there are public policies aimed at creating conditions for more employment and greater social protection.<\/p>\n

\u201c The assessment highlighted two fundamental challenges that Cape Verde must address, that is, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and sexual rape, recommendations that remain on the agenda ,\u201d stated the Minister of Justice.<\/p>\n

\u201c We have to work hard on GBV and sexual rape against minors, there is a need for greater efforts, I think we need more involvement on the part of everything that has been done \u201d, he admitted.<\/p>\n

To achieve this, Joana Rosa argues that policy measures must be adopted across several ministries, justifying that the country will only achieve these gains if the Government is able to mobilize NGOs and civil society around these issues.<\/p>\n

\u201c The Government has to be more open to financing activities, because NGOs cannot operate without financing, yes, demand, plan, monitor, and above all have financial means so that NGOs can implement actions that will have a greater impact on Cape Verdean society \u201d , needed.<\/p>\n

In his view, if everyone considers the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a guiding document, everyone will be united in working to \u201cleave no one behind\u201d.<\/p>\n
