Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The United States congratulated itself this Wednesday on having concluded record trade agreements with Africa this year, totaling 14.2 billion dollars (13.18 million euros), in a context of dispute with China for influence on that continent.<\/p>\n

In 2023, almost 550 new trade and investment agreements were signed, representing a 67% increase over 2022 in terms of number and value, said British Robinson, coordinator of the “Prosper Africa” \u200b\u200btrade initiative launched by the USA.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have had a record year for US-Africa relations,\u201d said Judd Devermont, head of sub-Saharan Africa at the White House, during an online press conference, organized a year after a summit with African leaders, during which US President Joe Biden promised to \u201cmake every effort\u201d on the continent.<\/p>\n

Washington committed in December to investing 55 billion dollars (around 51 billion euros) in three years in Africa. This strategy aims, in particular, to counter the growing presence of China, which has made notable progress in infrastructure construction, direct investments and loans.<\/p>\n

The United States has already achieved more than 40% of these commitments, Devermont highlighted. \u201cBy the end of the second year, we aim to exceed at least 70% of our objectives,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
