Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition) considers that the management of the first two North American financing from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), by the governments it led, contributed to the announcement of a new program.<\/p>\n

According to Lusa, which cites the president of PAICV, Rui Semedo, the country’s provision \u201copened doors for the first program\u201d in 2005 , whose execution consolidated access \u201cto the second [in 2012] and will be contributing to the third\u201d, now announced, he said in statements to journalists, at Friday.<\/p>\n

Cape Verde was chosen on Wednesday as a country eligible for a third financing package, at a time when the Movement for Democracy (MpD) has been in government since 2016.<\/p>\n

In addition to considering that the country is to be congratulated, the opposition leader says that the new development brings challenges.<\/p>\n

Rui Semedo defended \u201cgreater internal dialogue, reinforcement of the democratic rule of law, the foundations of good governance\u201d, investing \u201c a>\u201d.in the qualification of democracy<\/p>\n

Among the recommendations, Rui Semedo defended \u201cbetter circulation of information on the main internal dossiers, greater sharing, rigor and transparency\u201d, thus such as \u201cwell-established accountability mechanisms so that the country continues to be respected\u201d as in previous programs, he said.<\/p>\n

Also according to Lusa, the PAICV leader regretted that the parties and other entities were not consulted in the preparation phase of the new program, hoping that this will not happen again in the implementation phase.<\/p>\n

The MCC, an independent US government agency, announced on Wednesday that Cape Verde has been selected as eligible for a third \u201ccompact\u201d of public development aid aimed at regional economic integration, with values \u200b\u200bto be defined.<\/p>\n

The organization stressed that the decision is a “recognition of clear commitment” of the country with democratic governance and its significant development and poverty reduction challenges.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, reacted \u201cwith joy\u201d, assuming a \u201ccommitment to development\u201d and the Cape Verdean President, Jose\u0301 Maria Neves, classified the announcement as a \u201cgreat victory\u201d.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Maria Neves, reminds Lusa, was the Cape Verdean Prime Minister, by PAICV, when the country was selected for the two previous packages.<\/p>\n

In 2005, the MCC granted 84.6 million euros to infrastructure the country.<\/p>\n

In 2012, the organization provided a second financial compact, worth 50.9 million euros, to improve the management of water resources and sanitation, as well as property management services, says this newspaper’s source.<\/p>\n
