Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The MpD bench of the Municipal Assembly of Santa Cruz denounced today, in Praia, \u201c illegalities and lack of transparency\u201d on the part of the municipality, including the failure to schedule sessions and hiring of staff in an \u201c illegal \u201d manner.<\/p>\n

The accusations were made by the leader of the Santa Cruz MpD bench, Ivanilda Vaz, at a press conference.<\/p>\n

He claimed that the ordinary sessions that should take place quarterly during the year 2023, \u201crecorded only once, in the month of April\u201d, for the discussion and approval of management accounts and activity plans for 2022.<\/p>\n

Ivanilda Vaz considers that there have been illegalities in the Santa Cruz City Council, situations that, according to her, should have been deliberated by the Municipal Assembly.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast September, this year, a road accident occurred, involving the mayor’s car, in the middle of the night, on a Sunday, driven by his personal driver, with considerable damage, without anyone knowing the contours of this accident\u201d, he reported.<\/p>\n

The official also stated that the president of the Santa Cruz City Council, Carlos Silva, (…), \u201cthe very next day he was seen driving around in a luxurious, top-of-the-range vehicle, a Land Cruiser TXL Toyota, whose license plate ST-63 -YM, valued at 9,000,000$00 (nine thousand contos) which, recently, on their own initiative, they discovered had been acquired by mortgage, through the BCA, without knowledge and due deliberation on the part of the Municipal Assembly\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to Ivanilda Vaz, this amount could be made available for requalification of the city of Pedra Badejo, which \u201cremains one of the worst cities in the Santiago Norte Region\u201d.<\/p>\n

The bench also accused the municipality of entering into a partnership with a private company, involving the project, called Vitoria Santiago, aimed at infrastructure and sale of plots of land, in the area called Redonda, mentioned the leader of the MpD bench Ivanilda Vaz.<\/p>\n

According to the same source, the Santa Cruz City Council has carried out personnel contracts in an \u201cillegal\u201d manner, without a public competition and without scrutiny from the Municipal Assembly.<\/p>\n

He said that he does not know the total number of staff who work at the municipal council, \u201cthere are some who only show up on payday\u201d, adding that there are employees who earn wages lower than the minimum wage, practiced in Public Administration and who are not \u201c enrolled in social security,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Santa Cruz council is one of the few that has not yet updated employee salaries, with the 3.5% increase, granted by the Public Administration, in January 2023\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n
