Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic considered this Monday that the current challenges require a \u201cgreat communion of efforts\u201d and a \u201cDjunta mo\u0302\u201d and called on the main political actors to make an effort to elect bodies external to parliament.<\/p>\n

The Head of State, who was speaking during the New Year’s greetings ceremony by the National Assembly, said he hoped that 2024 would be a year of tolerance, a lot of friendship and a lot of fraternity as challenges require efforts and a great \u201cDjunta mo\u0302 \u201d from all Cape Verdeans and political parties.<\/p>\n

For Jose\u0301 Maria Neves, it is necessary to complete the process of electing bodies external to parliament, namely the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD), the National Elections Commission (CNE) and the Regulatory Authority for Social Communication (ARC) , as they are \u201cimportant\u201d bodies in regulating sensitive areas of national political life.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy appeal is that we be able to make an effort to elect these bodies external to parliament\u201d, he underlined, highlighting that it is essential that there is this purpose of communion within the framework of the pluralism of ideas and proposals that exist in the country.<\/p>\n

As parliament is the space for the expression of all the political sensitivities existing in the country and the vital center for the realization of democratic utopia, he stressed that it is \u201cimportant\u201d that Cape Verdeans have this awareness and the possibility of feeling reflected in the debate in the parliamentary house.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he also highlighted the effort that the National Assembly has made to increase the political debate in Cape Verde, but stressed that it is still necessary to work so that this debate can contribute to the strengthening of institutions, affirmation of freedoms, greater autonomy of the civil society, strengthening press freedom and that the country can continue to deserve the trust of the international community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to make an effort to debate ideas rather than cases, to debate proposals rather than people and to debate policies to improve health, education, transport, fighting crime, to have a safer and more peaceful country and to build competitiveness factors for more sustainable growth in the country\u201d, he pointed out.<\/p>\n

In the same vein, he also called for the debate surrounding the 2024 local elections to be effectively elevated and equal to the challenges that the country faces.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Head of State, who highlighted the excellence of relations between the Presidency of the Republic and the National Assembly, argued that it is \u201cfundamental\u201d that they continue to work towards institutional and democratic strengthening.<\/p>\n

During his intervention, the President of the Republic also said that the country must make an effort to comply with the Constitution in the international arena in order to contribute to the negotiated solution of conflicts and respect international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n

Later this afternoon, the President of the Republic will receive New Year’s greetings from the Government.<\/p>\n

New Year’s greetings continue throughout the week, with representatives of the justice sector, political parties, municipalities, religious institutions, the Armed Forces and the Diplomatic Corps.<\/p>\n
