ose\u0301 Rui Moreira issued this warning after another wave of animal poisonings on public roads across the island of Sal came to light, angering people and non-governmental animal protection organizations on the island.<\/p>\n

According to the delegate, in addition to being inhumane, this is a very dangerous method that can be used by anyone, especially children who are often on the street playing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe poisoning method is always dangerous, because in addition to being inhumane, it is an inappropriate way of sacrificing animals and is dangerous because the poison that is being used is normally placed in food that children or people without discernment can touch or ingest\u201d, explained.<\/p>\n

The Municipal Council of Sal has once again spoken out about the act that it considers \u201cvery delicate\u201d, \u201cbarbaric\u201d and unnecessary as the city council has been working to combat the increase in the dog population on the island through legal means and which also respects the animal rights.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe city council adopted an ethical canine management policy and therefore signed in 2020 the letter of alliance with the Civil Movement for Responsible Communities (MCCR), together with other municipalities in the country, in which the city council adopts canine management based solely in sterilization and responsible adoption\u201d, highlighted the technician in the area, engineer Carlos Xavier.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the beginning, the city council took a stand against this barbaric act and will never adopt this unsustainable method, because animal slaughter must be done technically through euthanasia, when extremely necessary, and by a veterinary professional trained to do so\u201d, explained Xavier .<\/p>\n

Since last August, non-governmental animal protection organizations on the island of Sal have been reporting cases of animal poisoning on public roads, with more than fifty dead animals.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that the poisoning of animals constitutes a crime, as established by the Penal Code in Article 372 \u2013 B, which deals with the mistreatment of companion animals. This act is punishable by up to two years in prison or a fine, up to 240 days.\u201d<\/p>\n
