Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The UCID deputy, Zilda Oliveira, stated this Wednesday that, despite the reduction in crime in Cape Verde, the country is falling short of what is necessary to guarantee social peace and promote security.<\/p>\n

Zilda Oliveira made these statements when speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 parliamentary debate, with the Minister of Internal Administration and which was proposed by the Parliamentary Group of the Movement for Democracy (MpD \u2013 power).<\/p>\n

As he recalled, the Ministry of Internal Administration is responsible for policies that ensure in the national territory, among other aspects, the safety of citizens and their property, public peace and order and assistance to populations in the event of a serious accident or catastrophe. .<\/p>\n

\u201cThe data from the report of the Superior Council of the Public Ministry for the year 2022-2023 indicates that 27,207 criminal cases were filed, although there is a reduction of around six percent (%) compared to the previous year, it shows that we are still short of what is necessary for the desired social peace\u201d, he declared.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted that security is a constitutional right and is a conditioning factor and determinant of social well-being, one of the elements in accordance with the concept of health, stressing, on the other hand, that insecurity and crime condition social peace and impact on the health of Cape Verdeans.<\/p>\n

According to the UCID deputy, the absence of social well-being certainly impacts everyone’s mental health, reiterating the need for more means to guarantee operability in all services, so that security forces are able to provide an excellent service to citizens, responding to crisis and crime situations efficiently and effectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur security forces are lacking human resources and lacking material resources and mobility. We ask when this situation will be definitively resolved. And we end this introduction by thanking the security agents for their dedication and commitment in this fight that is for everyone’s benefit, for this essential asset that is our security\u201d, he concluded.<\/p>\n
