Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG), Mariza Carvalho, called on political parties to include more women as list leaders in the next local elections, taking into account the parity law.<\/p>\n

The challenge was launched within the scope of a reflection debate entitled \u201cReview of the institution’s 30 years \u2013 gains and future challenges\u201d, carried out by ICIEG in celebration of its 30 years of existence.<\/p>\n

The official highlighted gains, but also highlighted compliance with the parity law as a challenge, remembering that in the last local elections, for example, parity was achieved, but not in the appointment of women as list leaders.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did not have female list leaders, despite having achieved parity in councils, in municipal assemblies, in deputies, we had few, not what was desirable. Therefore, it is a challenge that I leave, from now on, to the parties so that this year they can really make a difference in what has to do with the presentation of women at the top of lists\u201d, she appealed.<\/p>\n

As other challenges, Mariza Carvalho pointed out the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) that the country still faces, believing that it will improve with a set of measures that have been taken, such as the implementation of the Support Fund for Victims and their dependents. , and the continuation of work aimed at prevention.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also continue to work to promote the economic autonomy of men and women, knowing that the focus is always on the vulnerability that still exists in Cape Verdean society\u201d, he assured.<\/p>\n

According to forecasts from the National Elections Commission (CNE), the next local elections should be held between September and November this year.<\/p>\n

The opening of the reflection debate was chaired by the Minister of State, Family, Inclusion and Social Development, Fernando Eli\u0301sio Freire, with the intervention of the resident coordinator of the United Nations System in Cape Verde, Patri\u0301cia Souza.<\/p>\n
