Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>Cape Verde is today under the attention of the United States of America (USA) and China, hosting a visit from the North American administration and another from a Chinese delegation linked to a capital fund.<\/p>\n

Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, begins a tour of Africa in Cape Verde that will take him until Friday, also passing through Co\u0302te d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Angola.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout the trip, the secretary will highlight how the United States has accelerated the partnership since the US-Africa Leaders Summit, including in areas such as climate, food and health security,\u201d the US State Department announced in a statement.<\/p>\n

For its part, \u201cCape Verde hopes to deepen historical ties of friendship with the United States of America and outline new forms of partnership in strategic areas for sustainable development\u201d, said Ulisses Correia e Silva, Cape Verdean Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

Ulisses Correia e Silva highlighted the \u201cgreat commitment\u201d of the two countries to \u201cuniversal values\u201d, both assuming the role of democratic states of law, respecting Human Rights.<\/p>\n

Blinken’s visit comes a month after Cape Verde was considered eligible for a third financing program from the Millennium Challenge Corporation, an independent US government agency \u2013 public development aid support, with amounts to be defined, aimed at regional economic integration .<\/p>\n

The trip coincides with the visit to the archipelago by a delegation from the China Cooperation and Development Fund \u2013 Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPD Fund, English acronym), which will take place from Monday to Wednesday, with the aim of \u201cstrengthening cooperation between China and Cape Verde in terms of investment and identification of business opportunities in the country’s strategic sectors\u201d.<\/p>\n

During their stay in Cape Verde, the Chinese delegation will meet with various government departments and entities.<\/p>\n

The Government of Cape Verde reiterated, on Wednesday, its commitment to the principle of \u201cone China\u201d, after the elections on the 12th in Taiwan, which led to the presidency of William Lai, until now vice-president of the island and considered an “agitator” for Beijing.<\/p>\n
