Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The UCID deputy, Zilda Oliveira, considered today that infrastructure, spatial planning and housing are structural areas and despite investments by successive governments, \u201ccritical problems\u201d persist in these sectors on all islands.<\/p>\n

The UCID deputy made these considerations when she spoke in the National Assembly during the parliamentary debate with the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Spatial Planning, Eunice Silva, which was proposed by the PAICV.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the construction or rehabilitation of access roads to Saragac\u0327a, Flamengo, Mato Ingles and the Tchon d’Holanda agricultural perimeter, in Sao Vicente. Roads are undeniably useful for local and national communities and economies\u201d, he asked.<\/p>\n

He warned of the need to take environmental issues into account, asking the Government in this sense if it does not have \u201cmore sustainable, healthier alternatives to the use of tar\u201d, adding that it is necessary to design torrential correction infrastructures on the islands, which, in turn, are suffering from the drop in rain, such as Santo Anta\u0303o, Fogo and Sa\u0303o Vicente.<\/p>\n

The UCID deputy also considered that the housing situation in the country, in quantitative and qualitative terms, \u201cis still critical\u201d, remembering that the implementation of the constitutional right to decent housing is still deficient.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe asked when the initiative will be completed in other neighborhoods. We are concerned that our cities are being transformed into cities of concrete and tar. We are also concerned that architectural barriers persist in our cities, which seriously limit the access of people with disabilities to services\u201d, he asked.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he urged the Government to embrace the challenge of making cities sustainable, safe and inclusive, incorporating sustainability actions such as sustainable buildings, intelligent lighting, safe public roads for pedestrians and cyclists, actions that, in his opinion, contribute to the development of quality of life for populations and preservation of the environment.<\/p>\n
