Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>PAICV deputies elected by the Santiago Norte constituency today showed their solidarity with the victims of Inoce\u0302ncio in the community of Rabelos in Espinho Branco and promised to take the situation to Parliament in the next session.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, 27th, a fire hit the homes of seven families and cattle pasture in the ‘rabelados’ community.<\/p>\n

Visiting the community, deputy Carla Carvalho explained to journalists that the purpose of visiting her colleagues was to find out what happened and the situation of the eight families who were left homeless and lost all their belongings in the fire and to collect subsidies for take this situation to the next session of Parliament.<\/p>\n

According to the spokesperson for the PAICV parliamentarians elected for the region, the group was able to see that people and institutions are coming to the rescue in the first moments, with the victims being relocated, although not in a space that guarantees them privacy.<\/p>\n

\u201cEight houses were destroyed and affected more than 30 people who lost everything (…) the center where they are, with six rooms, cannot be maintained for long\u201d, he highlighted, reinforcing that at this moment the PAICV’s appeal is that the Government and the Sa\u0303o Miguel City Council work to meet the needs of this community.<\/p>\n

As he highlighted, it is necessary to guarantee not only food and clothing, but also a space that guarantees some privacy and dignity for these families.<\/p>\n

After this appeal, the deputies committed to taking this situation to Parliament, justifying that they had promised to work and remodel the locality for some time now.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a place that has been used as a postcard for tourism in the municipality and in Santiago Norte, so the community must be given due treatment and value\u201d, he highlighted, arguing that the relocation process should not jeopardize what characterizes this community.<\/p>\n

In this sense, he calls on the Government, including the Ministry of Culture, to be aware of this issue, to ensure that the community of rabelados continues with its identity, recalling that in 2016, \u201cin the middle of the municipal campaign, Minister Abraa\u0303o Vicente promised improvement of living conditions and the situation of this community, but so far it has not happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

And this moment, according to the deputy, is ideal to fulfill the promises, even if it is eight years later, as the community \u201cneeds to be valued\u201d, highlighting that with this \u201cthe island of Santiago, the municipality and the region are also valued\u201d, allowing to bring more resources and wealth to the municipality.<\/p>\n
